Singer Jessie J has revealed she returned to hospital where doctors discovered an "infection" and "a little fluid" on her lungs. The 37-year-old, whose real name is Jessica Cornish, has since discharged herself from the same ward where she was treated after breast cancer surgery just weeks ago.

In July, the Price Tag singer revealed she had seen "no cancer spread" following her surgery. However, six weeks later she found herself back in hospital with concerning symptoms.

Infection discovered during tests

Writing on Instagram, Cornish explained she had symptoms that initially pointed towards a blood clot on the lung. "It is not a blood clot thank god," she said, adding that extensive tests revealed an infection of unknown origin and fluid on her lungs.

The singer said she was "finding it hard to breathe in" but chose to discharge herself as she "hates being in hospital". She will continue the investigation as an outpatient whilst doctors work to identify the source of the infection.

Career plans disrupted

Cornish described feeling "frustrated" that her career plans had to change due to her surgery and hospital visits. She had been "working so hard to get to this point and excited to do it all" before her health setbacks.

The London-born star acknowledged that recovery from her surgery was proving more challenging than expected. "The recovery physically is far from quick or easy, and mentally it's been the most challenging time for me, especially as a mum with a toddler," she said.

Forced to slow down

The hospital visit served as a "reminder to myself to slow down" even though she felt she was already moving at a reduced pace. Cornish described herself as an "ADHD Aries, fire breathing dragon t-rex, I can do it myself, I'm always ok woman" who was struggling to accept the slower recovery timeline.

She admitted finding it difficult to adjust her usual active lifestyle, saying she loves "moving and working and being up and active but I can't be right now". The singer emphasised she was finding strength through her "very small inner support circle".

Health battles throughout life

Cornish welcomed her son, Sky Safir Cornish Colman, in 2023 after suffering a miscarriage in November 2021. She has faced numerous health challenges throughout her life, including being diagnosed with a heart condition aged eight and suffering a minor stroke at 18.

The singer also briefly went deaf in 2020, adding to her long list of medical setbacks. Despite these challenges, she has achieved remarkable success in her music career with three number one singles in the UK.

Her hits Domino, Price Tag and Bang Bang all topped the UK singles chart. In 2011, she won four Mobo awards including best UK act and best newcomer, plus the Brit Award for rising star.
